This one is about throwing, or at least the results from throwing.
I have a long standing thing about dark deep blue. We had a "slops" glaze that was perfect, but eventually it ran out and then I was left with poor substitutes and trying to make a similar result. Not always very successfully.
Now I seem to have hit on a method that gives pretty good glaze. The plates are actually much deeper than the photo shows.

I have not yet decided whether to keep these plates or try to sell them at the Xmas sale.

The kiln was firing while I was away last week and my big bowls are now done. Last time we saw them they were still wet. Now they are all finished. I had also made mugs and I tested various glaze combinations on them before using them on the bowls.

One bowl and a pair of mugs were left at the guild to sell, but I forgot to photo the bowl, must run ( bike) back and do that!

A bit of everything this time!
Since the last post I have had company for a week, been out of town for 4 days and generally puttered around. but some things did get accomplished.

 A second shawl/scarf in a variegated white/pink/green/beige. This time I did not start with un-liked yarn and did not have to take it apart.

These are the beginning of a strip afghan. Each will have a border, then the pieces will be joined together and an edging added.

These three have moved a few steps further along the path but I still have not glazed them. Can't decide what  want them to look like.

Every few weeks I make a batch of 8 loaves of bread. One of this weeks batch.

On request I am trying scrubs hats. This is the best so far, it fits me, now to see if it fits the requester!

It is surprisingly hard to take a reasonable looking photo of a hat, without a head!





So there we are, all "crafts" checked in.

The first weekend in May was our spring pottery sale, no payout yet but it seemed to go well. I also have a couple of items done just too late for sale.

I spent all of pottery class loading kiln, cleaning shelves, organizing kiln room and cleaning a trap. Another day will be needed to actually touch clay!











Somewhere there are a few crochet hats, must look for them and make photos.

I finally took photos of the new kiln. It is so pretty.  It also works well as the open photo shows!

The first load was run Thursday night to Friday morning, and unloaded Sunday.


Some glazed pots are shown in the next photo. Quite a few are mine. Well if it was going to explode or anything, it might as well be my stuff!  But it behaved very nicely and has now joined its friends as a kiln workhorse at the guild.




Sometimes glaze does not behave as you expect.
Too thick a layer has untoward consequences!







Not only the mug, but also the shelf was damaged, but I repaired it and  we are not going to mention that!










This batch of mugs is intended as gifts.













In other news concerning application of heat, I baked lemon cookies Saturday

And, no heat involved, slow progress is being made on the latest sweater. This one is kind of my own pattern.
Other projects keep getting in the way, but the end is in sight.

There is a new kid on the block. We have a new kiln at the guild, and I was so busy "assisting" with the delivery (so to speak) I forgot to take any photos! Several strong, mechanically apt, guys came and helped. Three of them held the kiln in the air while  elle (as in Elle Presidente!) changed the position of the cart it was resting on. Very impressive!
We still need electricity and venting but soon....

In other fields of endeavour I am, for the first time in many, many years making a sweater. Out of some yarn from that last shopping trip to Goodwill. Wait, I forgot to mention that!

Truly it is becoming an addiction. See thrift shop, find yarn. All that perfectly good yarn just sitting waiting for someone to adopt it. This batch was not so throw away cheap as some, perhaps because it is more recent. 14$ total for these balls. Six cotton balls, good for more donation hats or washcloths, and the acrylic will become a warm pullover.

I am using the Vanna's choice a thick [4] with a  6.5mm hook. And an online free pattern from Ben Franklin craft shops in "tweed" stitch. Also called woven stitch. It is going to be quite warm!

 The pen is there as a size marker. These are the first "big" bowls I have thrown since I broke my wrist in June. I think it is all better.

 One is already on the sale shelves.

for the first time since my wrist episode I threw something fairly large.

Last official class until January, but I will continue to finish all these off, perhaps some will be ready for Xmas?

Wine goblets are one of those things that are something of a challenge to make in clay. There are several different ways but I am trying the build-the-stem-onto-the-bowl, not the join-the-two-pieces-together. First I made a selection of bowls last week.

Today I trimmed the bowls smooth and then threw a stem on top of the upside down bowl.

It sounds easy? Well not for me, this is where the "friends" part comes in, aka our instructor, who gave lots of help, and eventually there were ...

a whole set of them!
they still need to dry, to be bisque fired, glazed, and glaze fired; but in just a few more weeks they will be ready for their adoring public. Whoever it may be.

If it is Tuesday it must be Belgium pottery.
The only craft I have actually taken classes for is pottery. I first went as a child, my mother thought since I had liked making mudpies, I would also like pottery. And it was clear I had absolutely no musical ability, and I could not draw or paint, some kind or art was needed. Since then I have gone to classes or belonged to a guild on and off. Lately on.
All my pots are practical, I can't seem to just make decorative pieces.
This is what came out of the kiln for me this week.
